Welding the chassis.
I have tacked the main part of the frame together and before i move it up the table to enable me to do the rear end, what are you views on welding the chassis completeley while it is still jiged up then do the rear end? obviously stager the welds to minimise distortion.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for this post Deanno : I'm at the same stage as you are, and I was wondering exactly the same question. It would be great to know what people think about that.
Thanks for telling us ! |

Make up the rear frame section that carries the wishbones as a separate piece obviously making sure it's square etc then and you might need another pair of hands, clamp it to the rear of the chassis in the right place. Doing it this way you shouldn't have to disturb the main chassis on the table. Once the wishbone frame is tacked on it will let you do the rest although it's over hanging the table.
In an ideal world the table should be longer but if you do it as above it will save any grief moving the chassis and the possible risk of something moving that you never noticed. |

Hi !
I finally made an extension to my table. Of course, I did my best to make it flat and levelled with the main table. Board : 600x1200x22mm (main board is 2500x1200x22mm) Timbers : 70x45mm section, two long pieces of 1200mm ans two shorter pieces on the side 510mm each. I don't know if it is a good idea, but I feel more comfortable this way than moving the chassis forward or let the rear part hang behind the chassis. I guess there are more than one right solution ! I'll let you know if it was a good idea when the rear suspension frame is finished Cheers ! Pictures : IMG_7740_1.JPG IMG_7742_1.JPG IMG_7744_1.JPG IMG_7750_1.JPG IMG_7747_1.JPG |
