Hi twin turbo and every one to answer your questions I live in Kent I can't weld but I'm going to learn the book I bought is Haynes build your own sports car on a budget, I have down loaded to alterations for Mx5 build from NTSengineering because I was thinking of that route because it seems to be harder to get Sierra parts

i couldn't weld either, but with practice it comes.

Biggest start is tacking the chassis together, which you dont need to be the best welder in the world to do to be fair.

Also there are plenty of MX5 builders (the wanna-be hairdressers i think of them as! Lol only joking)

Don't be fooled! I thought so too, and now I have more Sierra bits than I know what to do with! And i'm only over the water in Essex!

You never know! I certainly have more than I need - although as a beginner myself I am not 100% sure what all the bits are yet!

Welcome buying the whole car can sometimes be more beneficial you get all the parts and you know if they are working or not also doing it that way may well work out cheaper

Hello to another new builder!

I was in the same position as you a year ago, couldn't weld, had no parts, no clue and lts of good intentions.

Heard about a Sierra going cheap nearby from a mate down the pub (now completely stripped and the shell is in bits in a hedge) and got my dads old MIGmate 100 out of the shed.
An hour practicing on a polished old lump of landy chassis and I was better than my dad!
My chassis is nearly complete!

One thing to watch if you do go sierra route, get the right model! Mine is a 4x4 meaning I'll have to swap a few parts at some point.

But most importantly, have fun!

P.S. I think Will_08 has it about right on those people turning a roadster into a roadster
