Default Mot

Is it possible to drive your car for a pre Iva mot. Basically to have the emissions checked and the brakes etc?

I also have a small water leak that is coming from the pump and would have this fixed at the same time as don't want to take the timing belt off myself.

If the car is presented for an Iva test and any leaks occur (very minor ones) will it fail.

David

Saturn MX5 Based Chassis, Limited Slip Diff & 2.4 Quick Rack.

Build cost.... seems to be spending more on tools than car bits at the moment! (they will be handy in the future though).
Car iva'd and passed 15/08/2014. Finished weight 572kg.

Its not an actual mot though, as its not a registered car. So the driving to a pre booked mot doesnt apply.

A pre booked MOT drive also requires that thecar's registraion number is logged with the test station.

So
1) it's not able to be MOT'd as it's not car.
2) it's not able to be mot'd as it has no registration.

So unfortunatly no, it would have to be trailerd there for a independant worthiness inspection ( or however else you want to name it ).

I've never found anything in the IVA manual about leaks, but I've heard reports of people failing on them.
To be fair, you don't really want to be leaking coolant anyway!

Changing the timing belt and waterpump isn't that hard on the MX5 engine.
If you can build a car you should be capable of doing it yourself

If it leaks they stop the test, you can't pass if you don't complete the test.
You may be able to fix it and continue depends how pissed off the tester is
You should clean up the mess or the tester will have to

I believe that a car still needs insurance to be towed with wheels on the ground
What were talking about here is trying to find an excuse to get an in registered in taxed car to a garage
The fine and points could cost more than renting a trailer
