CVH Cooling Pipes
The metal pipe that bolts to the front of the engine direct fromt the waterpump.
It goes backwards then does a 90 bend then pretty much staight. Its currently too long to get a 90 bend on it to redirect it to the front of the car. What have other people done. Cut it down (but the diameter opens up towards teh end and it has a smaller bore take off so I'd loose that to) or cut the end off, chop a bit out the middle then weld the end back on again. Or bend it round?

I have the same engine too,
Before my engine swap ( like for like engine ) my original water pipe elbow that you are describing I left alone, but I agree it made it for a very tight turn for a rubber hose......but it DID work ok, albeit a bit of a snug fit up against the GRP side panel. When I bought the "new" engine from forum member Gus, i noticed that he had shortened the said elbow by approx 2 inches, so I used that one & it does seem to work really well. I,d suggest cutting & rewelding it, not sure if it would kink if you tried to bend it edit.....it looks like Gus had chopped a bit out of the middle so that he didn,t lose the smaller bore end ( hope that makes sense ) hth andy

I cut a90 bend out of an old rubber top hose to turn the bend towards the rad then had to fit an ali reducer to join to the smaller dia Polo bottom hose. Hope that makes sense---it works too--the wet stuff goes round and round and squirts into the header tank

Completed the cut and shut on the pipe
. Did another classic and weldling the pipe 180 deg the wrong way round, really nice welds aswell, anyhow have left it as is as sticking up the small bore pipe would have been close to touching the exhaust, it now exits down so it will be a little bit more of a pain to route it but it will be clear of the exhaust. ANyone know where this pipe goes to, I'm assuming the thermo housing so when shut it just bypass the radiator through this pipe?

I suppose you could set it up that way but I think the norm is to have the bottom outlet from the radiator going in and then the pipe from the thermostat going to the top of the radiator. I then just put a couple of T junction in the pipe from the bottom radiator hole for the expansion bottle etc.
