Default Iv blown it up!!!!!!

hi all

as the title suggests iv blown up the roadster have not had chance to fully inspect the damage but i judging from the size of the hole in the crank case id say a rod has let go....

not sure of the cause but when i stopped and checked the engine temp it was about 105C so there was a cooling failure which probably was a contributory factor.

Anyway on the upside that gives me the chance to put something different in if i want, i may replace like for like which would cost about £600 or i could swap for the Volvo inline 6 i have lying around which may be a little more expensive and quite a bit heaver but would make a bit more power and would get the dam thing out of the way and put it to some use.

What was the engine that blew?

(and it might have overheated due to lack of oil / friction...)

Gutted for you mate. The first engine I had in mine had the head gasket go, followed, in a close 2nd, by either the rings or valves.... either way compression dropped from 200 psi to 90! Proper pain in the arse changing the engine over but managed it in a weekend on my own.

yeh its a bit of a pain.

couple of issues with the volvo,

1 need a gearbox for it and they are rare as rocking horse s**t
2 will need a stand alone ECU most lightly mega or micro squirt
3 transmission tunnel will require some enlarging

all that said its a good strong engine 2.5 ltr 170HP should see north of 200 N/A when iv finished fiddling with it.

Better of with a white block T4 , you still need the M90 Box though.
