Default Type 9 bellhousing?

When fitting the type 9 box to a zetec black top.
Is there any reason why you cannot just turn the bell housing upside down, thus eliminating the need to chop the sump to put a starter in.
Not my idea, im happy enough to do the chop!

Yes
The bolts wont fit, the clutch cable wont fit, the bell housing where it fits to the box will have the cut outs upside down.
If you dont want to cut the Zetec sump (cheap) you can buy an ally RS2000 bell housing which has a starter motor hole at both sides (expensive)

Just to expand a little, the rear cut out on the bell housing has a hole at the top which is for the gear selector rod which comes out of the box when you select 2nd or 4th.
You can still get the RS2000 bell housing and they sometimes come up at swap meets and on ebay, minimum price i have seen is £70 so cutting the webs off the sump is by far the cheaper option, no reports of any problems with this mod but don't you need a CVH starter motor?
