What you doing for a fan Steve? MX-5 fan looks like it will fit but it's sucker and looks bulky. Found this fan again a sucker but light and cheap. Going to use a mk4 polo expansion bottle feeding the system from the heater matrix pipework.

I hope that's not me you're referring to
Spud was calling me Steve the other week too.
My name's not Steve, lol

I haven't got any further with the radiator/fan yet.
I'm hoping to use the MX5 fan, but I haven't checked to see if it will fit yet.
Don't want to spend cash if I don't have to!

I'm planning to use a Polo expansion bottle too.
How are you going to connect it to the heater hoses?

Aha, I thought your name was Steve as that's what Andrew called you!

I'm presuming that I can use a T-piece (which I may attempt to make by braising together the copper heater matrix pipes, or not) which will allow flow through the heater matrix pipes at the back of the engine. The hose on the third connection will run up to the expansion bottle mounted on the bulk head the other connection from the bottle will then run to the rad. Have you sorted a blank for the rad thermoswitch?

I want to use a big fan for when I go turbo. Maybe the 14" one will fit ok?

I think the 14" fan would fit, but looking at the dimensions it would overhang the top and/or bottom of the radiator.
That could potentially be worse for cooling as the path of least resistance for the air flow would be bypassing the rad altogether.
I reckon 12" might be a better bet.

Haven't bothered looking for a blank yet. I'll probably just use the Polo thermo-switch, I don't think they cost much.

Isn't one of the connections on the expansion bottle an overflow pipe?

yes the little hose from the rad goes to the top of the bottle and the bottle cap acts as a pressure relief valve. Hmmm I rekon I could sell the mx5 fan for £20, maybe 12" just to be safe.
