Question Fuel filler confusion

As per title really !!

I have read & digested the current draft IVA regulations..........Well to the best of my ability, that is

The issue of the fuel filler location is still a little unclear

My fuel tank is nearing completion, my thoughts now turn to the location of the fuel filler point.

I understand the regs state that the filler point is not to be located within a passenger or luggage compartment.

What I ask of you good folks............. If the rear tub contains only the fuel tank & remains unlined as to prohibit the use of storage.

Will this constitute a luggage compartment !!??

----------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the lo-cost option of the filler cap directly fitted to the top of the tank .

Having looked at the cost of external locking aerocaps & sockets ........... I feel quite weak at the knees

Good question Ronnie,if the space in the rear tub is open to the air it should not be classed as luggage space as its not capable of containing said luggage.
I have the same thought and considering fitting a screw on filler cap/neck inside what would normally be the boot.
Those Aero caps etc are silly money (but very pretty ).

Before I fully commit to the fuel filler I can give some thought to the following options.

Contact my local IVA inspecor for guidance, he did say not to hesitate to contact him during the build.

Bite the bullet and splash out on an aerocap, yes they do look the muts nuts

Go the lo-cost route & scavange some suitable parts from the breakers.
Thinking....Filler flap hiding a filler point, this could be made lockable with one of those small electric servos that so many filler flaps tend to have.
I am aware that if the filler cap is not lockable then it must be tethered

IVA man is the best option I think as he will be testing it,same scenario as MOT,tester's interpretation of the written word (been down this road have we not).

am i wrong in thinking that the filler cap "must" be tethered if not lockable with the ignition key? hmmmm.

i have an aero filler cap with a key but still intend to tether it, do i need to?

thanks
andy

ronnie my filler cap is in the rear tub. its not a luggage space if it cant carry luggage. my rear tub lid is technically an inspection hatch for the diff and to fill with fuel thats it.
