Diy powder coating system

I have been hunting about for one of these diy powder coating systems for a while and have came across the manufacturer in china and have started asking the questions regarding having a load shipped to me

Question is how many people want one if we can get a group buy together as long as the price is right of course

I dont have any prices yet just want to know how many to order

By the way a simple steel cabinet from ikea a meat thermometer and a couple of heat guns and you hot a dedicated curing oven

I very nearly put my hand in my pocket to buy one at Exeter show last year.

Seen some quite good results from those once you get the ideal baking temp right

I worked for a large industrial machinery manufacturer a few years back, they had a fantastic powder coat line running.
If the part to be powder coated was prepared correctly you can achieve a very durable finish indeed

Powder coated a huge range of things for my boats ( Above the waterline ) & everything I did stood up to marine life very well.

If I remember correctly, the Exeter show price for those kits was £125 on the day .

Yeah I have seen them at about the same price so having a bit of experience importing stuff in the past am thinking I could get it down to about the 80 quid mark

My eldest has just paid £250 to have his inlet manifold powder coated

An absolute rip off if you ask me, well it is when bearing in mind that his engine builder would have been bead blasting his manifold in order to give it a standard alloy finish that was part of the inclusive engine re-build price

Yes at £80 ish quid I'd be very interested as I have access to a decent oven at work to bake things in!

Seen the finished product which is great but have never seen it done. What else ouside if the kit your looking at will be needed. Also how big a piece can you do. Please dont suggest putting it in the oven at home to cure I would end up with no man vegetables.

Well you could use an infra red heater to do panels and what not or if you doing a chassis you could use a heat gun but it may take a while will be looking for the powders too but I dont want loads lying about my garage was thinking of looking for other tools and gadget's roadster build handy stuff but its all early days

It might be worth finding out what sort of temp is needed to bake off the powder. It's my understanding that using a heat gun won't be enough as the material underneath has to heated for the powder to stick, otherwise it just lays over the material and is prone to peeling off. One thing I do know is that if you make a mess of coating the part and you've baked it if you soak it in thinners for a day it all just falls off.

I have been looking at the system advertised in complete kit car for £119 has anybody tried it I quite fancy trying it myself
