1.8 Zetec Clutch
I am nearing the stage of putting the engine into my chassis, so i'm now needing to buy a clutch and flywheel for my 1.8 zetec (pre 95 engine).
Could anyone tell me if the following clutch would be suitable? And also why it is so cheap? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-FOCUS-1-6...e#ht_936wt_698

Av Taylor sell cheap stuff, mickey mouse brands ok for kerbside motors but not much use for any other than a quick fix to sell a car.Pay the extra for a known brand, wont be much more.

Hi Simon
If like me, you are fitting an early 1.8 Zetec ( Mines a 1992 Silver Top ) You will need a Mk 1 Mondeo 1.6/1.8 clutch & then you will have to source a clutch release bearing .... Quninton Hazel part no: CCT133 Here's a link to the sort of kit that should be suitable Mondeo Mk1 clutch I'll have a look in the QH guide for you in a while .... Just to check the spine size is suitable .... Don't jump in & buy one just yet Of course I am assuming that you are using the type 9 gearbox The standard 1.8 flywheel should be fine as is. You will need to fit a spigot bearing into the Zetecs crankshaft at the flywheel end ( Easy to order from ford or ebay, exactly the same as the original Sierra one ) Mine is all fitted up & looks like it will work a treat

Thanks for the helpful post Bonzo!
Just so I can create a cut and clear list for future reference. To go from an early 1.8 silvertop zetec (pre 95) to a Type 9 gearbox I will need a 1.8 clutch from a MK1 mondeo, a spigot bearing from a Sierra, a 1.8 mk1 mondeo flywheel and a clutch release bearing (I'm sure I've read somewhere that these are common Ford Capri bearings?). So that means that the following should get my bare engine mounted to my type 9 gearbox with no issues: 1.8 Clutch - MK1 Mondeo Spigot Bearing - Ford Sierra 1.8 Flywheel - MK1 Mondeo (My engine didnt come with a flywheel) Clutch Release Bearing (CCT133) - Possibly from a Capri ARP Flywheel Bolts CVH Starter Motor (Currently Have) CVH Alternator (Currently Have) Sierra Sandwhich Plate (Currently Have)

A word of warning when buying the release bearing !!?? The CCT133 bearing was used on only some of the early Capris .... Others used the CCT132 bearing. I gave one of my local factors the actual part number .... Paid for it up front as it was a special order .... Yep, you guessed it, ended up with a worthless CCT132 bearing Ask your factor if they deal with QH & get them to phone the part number in whilst you are there Here's the difference between the 2 bearings CCT133 on the right

Hi ronnie,
I also have early silvertop 92/93 model 1.8, I was always under the impression that the standard flywheel and clutch would be ok, I'm a bit miffed now if I've got to change them. What is the difference between them? cheers, tony |

Just had a delve through the QH clutch catalogue
The type 9 Sierra gearbox has a 25.4mm ( 1" ) shaft with 23 splines Looking at the focus stuff it looks as if most have a shaft diameter of 26mm ( Some are missing the diameter ) but the friction plate on them looks to be too large for the Zetec flywheel. Mk1 mondeo 1.6/1.8 friction plate diameter 220mm X 25.4mm ( 1" ) shaft & 23 splines Pehaps it would be wise to check with the seller on that ebay listing ( Bit vaugue about the shaft diameter )
