Default Which Steering Rack

Hellooooooo
can someone tell me if it is ok to use a ford escort mk 3 manual rack instead of a mk2

or

is it possible to use a mk1 rack instead of a mk 2 as in the book

I very much doubt it, the Mk3 was front wheel drive, and bound to have different geometry

The mk1 and 2's are the same except they have different threads on the rod ends. From memory the MK2 is 12mm and the Mk 1 is 1/2 UNF. It's no big deal if you are making the track rod extensions yourself, I have a MK1 rack and just drilled and tapped the holes in my extension pieces to suit.

Looking at the manual for the Escort Mk4/5 & 6

The steering arm is at the rear of the hub assembly if this should prove to be the case with the Mk3, you'll end up with clown steering.

The mk2 escort rack is designed to opperate the steering via front of hub arms. ( Same as the Sierra )

why hunt you can get a brand new one from rally design for £56.
