suspension brackets

Hi guys just wanting a bit of help over here in kiwiland, im looking at making my suspension U brackets, did most people use flat bar and cold bend them or hot bend them? Then drill the hole thru both sides?
One method i was thinking was to use 50X50 rhs drill the hole then cut the side off make the U shape.
Love to know how most people on here who make their own U bracket, how did they do it.
