Default ball joint bolts

Hi Guys,
What bolts are you using to hold the ball joints in the wishbones ? as the holes in the bones are way bigger than the joints

Thx
Nigel

Who's front plates are you using or have you had some cut? The drawing says 11mm hole although it does say 15 rad next to it which if scanned quickly could lead to cxxk ups. The M10 and nyloc that came with the ball joint would fit just fine as long as the plates are made correctly.

The bones sre from Saturn, and the holes measure .583" and the holes in the joints measure .380"

0.583 = 14.8082mm so it looks like who ever programmed the machine misread the drawing saw 15mm which is the rad round the out side instead of cutting a 11mm hole
Moral of the storey always pull a few samples from the batch before you walk out of the door, the place I get all mine done has been caught out by RU7 & 8 before, if it's not as per the drawing I don't pay for it.

Surely the jig would have highlighted the holes being a bit oversize

Maybe Spud from Saturn uses some sort of step bolt, as surely this has come has come to light before if this is the way he produces them ??

Shoulder bolts are damn expensive mind you as the shoulder tends to be machined to certain sizes so they can be used as pivot bolts.

Is there enough meat in the ball joint itself to let you drill out the holes so at least they match? But then 14mm bolts is gonna be fat 'n much chunkyness

Hi Mark,

It might be possible to drill the joint to 1/2" but there would be not be enough room for the bolt head or nut, I think maybe I will have to machine a counter sunk head cap screw into a shoulder bolt and re thread to maybe 3/8" or 10 mm
Another idea would be to machine up some step washers that maybe the easiest answer !!

That's a cracking idea make up a top hat bush that resizes the holes on the wishbone use them underneath though so they don't jack up the ball joint...
