Default Por 15

Has anyone used POR 15 to paint their chassis ? If so, does it need a primer ?

im planning to por15 my chassis. you probably know this but to use por15 you need to marine clean it (or use something else to degrease & clean the metal), metal ready it, then you need an undercoat and then a top coat.

The metal ready acts as the primer by etching the metal which will make the under coat stick.

I used Por 15 on my chassi, with the appropriate Marine Clean, and Metal Ready as under treatment. I painted it straight on the chassi without any undercoat and it turned out FAB and cheaper than a powdercoat.

POR15 IS an undercoat! It works better if it's painted over a surface that's lightly rusted. My experience is that it peels off when painted on shiny steel. It needs a top coat to prorect it from UV.

Mike.

As I do not have a compressor can you brush paint it? If you can what sort of finish would you get.

Default top coat

Can you use any type of paint as a topcoat, eg ordinary household gloss.

Cheers

Peter
