Red face Sorry folks

A big sorry for my absence from the forum for the last few weeks folks

Snowed in for the best part of a week……………I threw myself into some of the DIY jobs needed about the home.
I heard that !!?? Who said “ Better I threw myself in the lake “

End result ?? A well pleased better half & loads of big & small jobs out of the way.

The downside of all this graft was lots of early nights, lazy starts & no forum time.

How strange is life ???...................Our lane was snowbound & frozen solid for a full week.
Not being very steady on my feet at the best of times, I managed to walk the dog several times a day without slipping over.

Last week, I was on the top tread of our step ladder getting something out of the top of a bulit in wardrobe.
There was a largish box in the way ………..I slid it out …..Yikes….I was too heavy for me.
I threw the box down onto Juniors bed that was close by ………. In the process, I managed to throw myself from the ladder as well !!??

Well the wife was a lot of use…….She was in a fit of laughter & said “ I was impressed that you managed a commando roll in mid air & land on the bed, next to the box “

No harm done, just a pair of skinned shins, bruised wrist & tweaked my back a little.
We both had a darn good laugh about it.

No progress on my build, it has just been too darn cold & I have reached breaking point with the leaky workshop roof.
This winter has really put paid to it, good n proper . Hardly a dry area to be found now ??

At the expense of my build fund ……..I have decided that a new roof is more important at this moment of time.
At least I already have the new tiles & my Two lads are roofers.

Grumble time ?? ………. I thought the building trade was slack at the moment.

I contacted 3 local roof truss companies on Monday. All of them promised to get back to me with a quote, true to form, none have !!!!!

Personally, I thought 11 trusses would be worthy of a quote. Perhaps they don’t need the business.

On the plus side. My eldest has priced up the timber & is happy to do all of the joinery work as well as laying the roof,
Should save me an extra few hundred £££’s …..Result

I’ll try to catch up with the latest forum posts this evening & get round to replying to my PM’s

That’s all for now folks

Welcome back Ronnie, seems almost poetic as you were the first to welcome me when I joined . Sounds like you've had a fun time, fancy popping round here and sorting out a few household chores? Bathroom taps all need replacing for a start, got the new ones today . Then there's three bedrooms, hall, stairs and landing to decorate, new kitchen floor to lay, utility room to finish tiling, plastering and decorate.

Oh and a sort of roadster to build......................

Good to have you back, D.

I came home from owrk today to find half the wallpaper missing from the hall

Good job ya landed on the bed as that could have been nasty.

With regards to gettign the trusses... It's the same story through many industries. They have cut back so far on staffing to ride out the downturn that they don't have enough staff for all the work they could potentialy get, but it's better being busy and turning away a few jobs than having staff/stock burning cash doing nowt.

Yep, I am lucky ...My other half likes to do the papering & dreadded painting.
Good job too, I hate painting with a vengence

We both saw the funny side of my tumble but it could have been quite nasty.........When I fell on the bed, my hand & wrist became trapped between the foot board & matteress. So much so, my wife had to stand on the matteress so as I could get my hand out ( After she stopped laughing that is )
Lucky I never broke the thing, had a beauty of a bruise

I guess you are right on the truss situation.....I hadn't thought of that angle & probably makes sound ecconomic sense for medium size companys.

It turns out, that my eldest can get enough 6X2 & 8x2 timbers for about £300 another £100 for felt n batten & the job will be a good un

it's not just small/medium companies.

We had trouble getting products in sep-dec.

The product.... Colour inkjet printers from HP!!! Nobody in the UK could get any stock. Then the Laser printer we use could not be got!! Delivery schedules slipped from days to weeks to unknown!! they were just not making any printers..

So we went to Kyocera who had stock.
