tub tubes
after making an arse of my tub tubes rp1 etc with a plumbers pipe bender, i then thought an electricians conduit bender would be more suitable,
then.... i thought is there any good reason why i just cant use 20mm electrical conduit for these tubes? |

Don't see why not but they are usually galvanised so make sure and remove it in the area you plan to weld. I believe it gives off nasty fumes.

Not sure about using conduit, but I did use a 20mm conduit bender to bend my tubes.
It didn't make a perfect job of them, and flattened them slightly, but it's good enough considering the ali tub is going to cover them. |

Thanks for the input guys, i might retrieve the tubes and give them go in the conduit bender.

I used a conduit bender but packed the dies out with some duct tape to make the tube a bit more of a snug fit, It didn't work out to badly

Dont suppose using conduit is a problem but dont use the galvo stuff as fumes when welding are toxic. Also galv <zinc> plays havoc when it comes into contact with ally.

You could of course just go buy a length of 7/8' 16-14gauge ERW clean mild steel then you'll have no trouble welding or bonding to it.

I'm using 20mm conduit (Again for free) and have just done my bends today, what I did was cut 4 pieces about 1m long then where it says in the book the measurement BEFORE the bend add a bit extra.
I now have 4 90 degree bends which I intend to join by means of an insert into the pipe and weld fully ensuring I grind the galv off and use a mask when welding. alternatively buy the ones on ebay
