Default Steering Rack Confusion????

Hi All,

A little confused!

I measured my steering rack which I believe is MK 1 escort.
Track rod to track rod, 1140. reading online, average 1100mm so sounds good.
I have my car in CAD at the moment and I have from upright to bracket 422mm.
Then across frame (Wishbone mounting brackets & across frame) 494mm.

So as an estimate, upright to chassis 422 + across chassis 494 + chassis to upright 422 = 1338. that means the rack is at least 200mm to short????

Yep that's right you will need track rod extensions to suit escort ends to whatever track rod ends you are using
What uprights are you using?

Hi ya again,

I just moddled in the new extensions and they seem to long?
The book shows them at 145mm long with 40mm of thread.
Even with everything butted up, the wheels are still toeing out a lot????

Once you have your rack in you can make the extensions to suit. I had 2 escort racks and the body was the same size and the track rods were different lengths one rack to the other
I can measure if you need me to.
But I found many parts were not an exact science as we are mating different parts together from different models from older cars that saw many changes during production

I found the book measurements wrong and made some shorter extensions than the book suggested
