Default Ford ST170 engine and Type E G box

Sorry to be a pain, i have been told to go for a ST170 engine, good specs, BUT as i have a pinto engine and Type E G box i can fit the 2.0l Zetec engine but is the ST170 the same bell housing fitting as for my TYP E G box? if so i think i will go with that engine, same spec, well near as if not better than the cologne V6 i wanted, but better fuel economyaswell. and a whole lot lighter, V6 370lbs to the ST170 220lbs.

Engine management will be a lot more tricky though as the engine has variable cam timing. There aren't many ECU's that can do that, and I think the Ford ECU is out as you have to use certain dash modules etc.

Thanks kida, i guess i will go with the MX5 engine and box then as in the first place.

Do you know if the late MK2 or MK3 MX5 engines are the same as the ST170 for setting them up?

Just that they have the better performance than the early engines.
