Default To Donor or not to Donor (to Q or not to Q)

My Problem is finding a cheap enough local Donor. I am at the point of considering just buying the parts. This will obviously mean the Car ends up on a Q. I know the parts collectively will cost more but less work to strip and dispose. Just wondered about your thoughts. It would prob be back to sierra parts as there are more of them. I know boxes and complete looms could be hard and expensive but more advice would be good.
Thanks in Advance.

Just had another thought. Howabout an escort. Then all I need will be the diff, gearbox and rear hubs. Assuming the column and speedo drive are the same.

Dave,

I didn't have the time or space to break a donor so I bought all the parts as a set.
Basically there was a breaker on ebay who I bought some front hubs from. I told him what I was doing and he said if I was willing to wait a few weeks he would see if he could find a complete Sierra. Within a fortnight he had found an insurance written off Sierra at auction. I gave him a list of all the bits I wanted. He stripped it and sent all the bits to me on a pallet. It was more expensive but suited my situation better.
I know i'll end up with a Q plate as there was no V5, the insurance company had destroyed it, but I wasn't bothered.

To add to your list you will also need the front hubs from a Sierra.

i'm using my escort MK5 for the engine, alloys, steering colum (if power steering is not going to be an issue), loom, i think that is about all i can use.

also is it more expensive to insure a Q plate??

Its a hard question and I guess down to personal preferance I am going down the mx5 route myself as these are more plentiful but if I can find somewhere to keep and strip the cars I may start to sell donor packs meaning everything you need so do your build complete with v5 just minus everything you dont need

I would have to say I've not found quotes for Kit Car insurance to be different Q plate Vs non Q and I've had both. May be different for Non kit Q platers though.

I really couldn't be bothered to strip one down with the time and hastle.
On both of my builds i bought donor kit from someone packing up their build.
Think I spend less than buying a donor, if you patient a pack seems to come up every couple of months.
