Ladder framed escort mk1/2 based kit mostly the same as the dutton b+ and pheaton kits which were probably the first of the seven type kits. A bit long in the tooth now. A mate of mine Rob Budd of the eagle cars fame bought the rights to the pheaton side of things in the last few years of its production but i think it had all died a death by the time he retired. I still speak to him every now and then so i will ask what happened to the melos. I think there is still a dutton owners club running.

Thanks for that! It would be great to find out more about them!
I wonder whats the price of them?
This is 1967 I'm sure! I think they are fairly uncommon!
Thanks again,
Darryl

I have a Dutton Phaeton and a member of my local car club has built a haynes locost, the locost although fitted with a tuned engine just can't keep up when out on a run as it's cornering abilities are some what lacking. It was built by an engineer so all very nicely made but it just doesn't work.

I actually quite like the styling of the Phaeton in a weird kinda way as it isn't trying to be a 7 it is what it is and the rear looks rather neat the way it kicks up.. Bit like a streetfightered bike The older Sylva cars are also a bit strange styling wise but also quite cool at the same time

I had a b+ dutton for less than a week, I took it in a chop for a rover tc, it had a 1500gt cortina engine in it. It was the worst built car i had ever seen and i never fancied spending time and money on it so it went.

Yeah I realise now that a dutton probably isn't the best car for handling ect,
But if it was goin cheap enough it may be an ok buy!
Il let you know how I get on!
Thanks,
Darryl

I certainly agree with that one Mark

If you wish to get a budget foothold into the world of 7'ish/kit car world, there are plenty of older ones about.
Thinking Dutton, Locust, Jago & the likes

Just make sure that anything you are interested in is of period build & has the correct documentation ( Usually the correct desription on the vehicles V5C document )

Personaly, I would steer well clear of any un-finished projects as these will most likely now be subject to the IVA test !! ( Unless it has been registered and was one of those sripped & never put back together type jobbys )

If in doubt, you can allways ask us folk here for some advice so as you don't end up buying a Lemon
