So if you end up with a Q plate and come MOT time do they still revert back to 1975 regs...ie visual smoke test rather than a pipe up the exhaust doodah?.

I'm going the 3 wheeled route anyway as a lot less hassle test wise and no call for reverse unless you really want to...
Hanker after leaving strange single wide black lines off roundabouts and junctions..might even be a stroker yet too..how anti social

Sadly not. Since the SVA / IVA was introduced, they set the engine emissions for your test as post 1994 (CAT test) as default, unless you can prove your engine is older than 1994. The issuing of a Q plate is done by the DVLA and doesn't affect the emissions decision made by VOSA. Only older Q plates (prior to SVA / IVA) are visual smoke test only.

How typical is that then....... Oh well msva not as intense as IVA and cheaper
