Default wheel offset

Can any body explain wheet offset to me please? I've read some where that it's measured from the centre line of the wheel to the bolt face of the wheel and some where else that it's measured from the outer face of the rim back towards the bolt face?? Which is correct as I'm playing with various drive shafts and chassis widths to see if I can make a chassis that I can get my fat arse into! I know that you can put peugeot wheels on a ford and they stick out further with corrected centre boses which would help my chassis widening, but just need to know if I'm going to need a pair of beefy wheel spacers as well.

Try this site http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/WheelOffsetCalc.html
Rwd cars usually are offset further outwards than FWD.

Thanks for that, looks like I'll have to stop looking at ford fitment and start looking at other 108pdc wheels.

Dear Santa,

I've been a very good boy this year......
I'd like some 15inch plus split rims with black spokes, polished rim....

Lots of people still supply rims in all sizes to fit MK 1/2 escort, capri. As pug wheels fit ford then maybee citron, renault will also. most wheel manufactures will only be pleased to help. I was thinking of a wider roadster + 2 to 4" with slightly larger boot for touring. i would be interestered in your conclusions.

To put it simply.

The ofset is measured from the centerline on the rim to the bolt face.

if the bolt face is closer to the outer rim then we have a + offset
if the bolt face is closer to the inner rim then we have a - offset.

I had Peugot offset wheels ( 15mm IIRC ) on our mondeo, that put's the total track at 40mm wider than wheels on a standard 35mm offset. It went round conrners very well but would rub the arches on the bumpy stuff.

Just been looking at 15inch minilites and compomotive prices and looking at what offsets they come in, 0-15mm for the back and 30-40mm for the fronts been told off by the wife as I'm reminded that I'm building a car on a budget. might be cheaper second hand as I only want two of each.
