Default Steering rack extensions for MX5 build..

Hi all,
I got the steering rack extensions made as per book ages ago before I realised they were too long. Going to get them re-machined this week to suit MX5 ends from the donor. The question is how long should they be and what size thread.
The reason I ask is I haven't taken my donor to bits yet so just being lazy I guess...

thanks Johno

If your using an escort mk2 rack then it's M14x2 and the mx5 track rod is M12x1.5mm if I remember correctly.

Thanks Talon...
Do you know roughly how long the extension should be overall from edge of thread to start of thread the other end, and yes I am using a MK2 escort steering rack...

Thanks Johno

I would have thought Andy at SSC would be able to tell you the body length of the extension needed for their design, I can't open any of his drawings on my laptop. I think you need 25mm worth of male thread as a minimum as you need a lock nut on there as well.

According to http://www.locostusa.com/forums/view...hp?f=5&t=10551 the MX-5 TRE has a M12 x 1.25 thread.

Hello Johno,

Made some extensions up on Saturday to match the Mx5 track rod ends and 100mm long with a 30mm M12 x 1.25mm male thread and 60mm M14 x 2.0mm female the other end works just fine. The Mx5 track rod ends are longer than the sierra ones.

Hope that helps....AndyH
