hi all, i am new to this froum, but not new to kit cars.

i have built and still got a mk indy, i started to build it when i was 16 and finshed it when i was 17 for my first car, and know i did build a 2.0 duratec up for it, i can not insure a 2.0, so i am selling that.

but me and my dad what a project as i god rid off my mini now as well.

so i was thinking about enough 7 type chassis but with a hard top and a biggish boot, but a diesel engine, so i can have a all year run about, but with a turbo so when i put my foot down it goes still.

so where is the best place to start to read about the correction in the book?

Sierra 1.8TD would be the ideal choice then..

Why do you need a top for all year use

Hi Stuart
Did i meet you at a essex kit car meeting with your dad. You was driving a black MK indy. If so could'nt you make a top for it?

hi all, i have a 1.6 pinto in the mk, which i have been driving about for a year now, since i was 17, then i rebuilt fully a 2.0 duratec to 200bhp, but can not insuure the 2.0, so i am selling the 2.0 duratec.

and yes i did met you at essex kir car meet.

but at the same time i sold my classic mini, so now at a lose end and wish to build a enough one but from the chassis up, either for my dad, or for me as a all year round one.

i am faily handy with a mig, so not worried about the welding issue, and read through the book a few times, but was wondering about flat pack kits to see if they are any good?

Hi Stuart,
firstly a warm welcome to the forum,
May i say well done on building your first car at such a young age, anyone who builds there own car has achieved so much, well done

As for flatpacks, I,ve heard that they are very good , but i,ll let others tell you for definate
There are quite a few forum members building theirs cars from the flat pack kits.
I,ll say no more

Whatever route you choose, good luck with your build.

A very warm welcome to the forum Stuart

I am sure that you will get all of the help & advice needed through the forum

To be honest .... If I were to build another chassis from scratch .... I would definately use one of HandyAndy's flat pack chassis kits.

So much more than just a pile of pre-cut steel .... You'll have the full support of a respected fellow Roadster builder ..... One that has built his own car from scratch & has a full knowledge of the common problems that us mere mortals will come uppon at various stages of the build .


Can't help with diesel engine options !! .... The last diesel I owned was a 1990 Citroen BX & fitted with the XUD oil buner ..... Diesel engines have probably moved on a little since then
