Well pleased with the extra wide scoop Andy
Was facing the choice of either loosing more ground clearance or butchering the standard bonnet. Certainly one less problem for me to resolve Before anyone pipes up with " Yes, what about the extra work of painting " I knew at the outset of my build that I would be using alloy sides & rear tub. Also knew that I would not be able to live with a mixed alloy & Coloured GRP scheme. To that end an entire re-paint would be inevitable. The cost of painting is not as expensive as some folk would have you believe !! Well not for me as I have the equipment to do the job

Yes it is if you use the right paint for the job, at least £400 in materials alone aint cheap Ronnie...We have recently painted the Vodou plug and although it's a truly outstanding finish it wasn't what you call "cheap" but it makes for superb finish to the moulds.

Price of paint and primers etc has gone through the roof, was not that long ago a litre of single pack air dry paint was £12 and you could paint a car for £100,more like 500 plus these days.
Ronnie ,you could polish and laquer the ally.

Some times it's not the price of the materials that makes for a good paint finish, it's how it sprayed on using a good gun in a clean space by some one who knows what they are doing. I have found the price of paint goes up with the quality (although not always the case) how ever it might as well be put on with a roller if the basics are wrong from the start.
If it all goes wrong though I've seen some truely horrible orange peel paint finishes using cheap 2k paint rescued by 1000 grit wet and dry and some time spent with polishing compound and a mop.

Completely true, its the same for grp based products. About this time last year the EU decided to add a 40% import duty to all grp based products from China, they say to make European based materials more viable. This is all Bo**ox as where else do you go!!!

Recently had to paint a shed load of our kit to tidy it all up. I found a deal on fleabay for some 2k with all the other crap that goes with it for about £25 a litre. I bought about 3 gallons of it, the painter phoned and asked where i got as it was the worst paint he had ever used, he threw the towel in and went and got some decent stuff. You only get what you pay for. Bob

First Kit I had painted was the daft Lotus 11ish, all grp bodywork and it cost £1500 as a favour and that was 8 years ago now, damn good finish that couldn't be faulted but if it had been a "proper booked in job" another £1000 would have been added to that. So we opted for the take as long as you like and 1500 folding things option.
Local place wanted £3000 to paint it |
