Default New builder

Hi

I have had the book a while and regularly flick through it. I have now however decided to start building one.

I am doing up an old BMW 3 series that I bought spares or repair on ebay, my son has taken an interest and loves to help out (when he is not playing mario kart). My plan is to sell that for whatever I can get and buy the chassis and tools to get started and this will be a project for me and my son to do together.

One thing I have never done is weld and as my son will be helping (he is only 5) I dont really want to shut him out the garage whilst I learn. I also dont trust myself to put together a safe chassis.

As a result I am looking for a ready made chassis. What options are there in terms of suppliers and what is recommended?

If I would like to get into racing it (nothing serious) as well as being able to drive it on the road what would be the best setup in terms of donor cars?

Brace yourselves for many more questions in the near future?

Regards

Your choices for chassis are really Talon motorsport or Saturn which i think are now trading under NTS.
Why not use the 3 series as your donor?
The other option of late is the Mx5 as there are lots of tuning options.

Here is one on ebay;

(put your location in your profile as this will help also)

Hi

The BMW is automatic. Also im not sure there is enough info out there and this is a first for me so I would rather do something that has been done a lot before.

I am going to go for an MX5 i think.

Thanks guys,

As I said, I am going to do this without welding myself. If I buy a completed chassis will I be able to get one that has already been modified to the MX5? I take it I can buy all the items that need welding together and not have to do any myself?

Looking forward to getting going now. My son is very exciting and telling everybody at school. He says he wants to paint it like a raindow though which im not so sure about
