Hello, another Starter

Hi to you all, another one attempting the build. I have been browsing the forum for quite a while and purchased the book at the beginning of the year, and have taken the plunge.
Managed to buy the chassis kit from John Marchant who has abandonned his project and as a bonus got his build table, so a super start. Down side at the moment is the need to learn to weld, but have been on the mig welding forum for tips and bought a DVD, what more could I need Will just practice and practice on the spare steel I have until I am happy and away I go.
Like most people on here I am on a budget, so the missus has said it must be self funding as much as possible, so ebay has become very popular for my build fund.
Looking forward to starting, although it will be a slow build as I have 3 kids that need a bit of attention too.
Already learnt alot from a few of the build diaries on here (ginge & enoch especially), which are a massive help to any new starter.
Any way enough blubbering heres my first pics of the workshop (as i call it now) before and after.
Don't suppose there is anyone building or built one in West Sussex, Preferably in Worthing at the end of my road

The chassis kit has the first few parts welded, but not the best job, so I will be taking it apart and starting again as it has lifted a little, John may have over-tacked a little bit

Good start there J, i think you may need to clear a bit more clutter though....

Nice to see another build start from a previous one having to be abandoned

like Spud has said.... its amazing how quickly you use up the space.... suggest taking 1 item per day from the garage into the house.....that way the mrs might not notice

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As Andy's said, make sure you have a clear work area, I'd also keep an eye on the carpet when welding

Shouldn't be too long before you've got your chassis up and together, then the real fun begins.

I will have an extinguisher on stand by, to ensure the carpet doesn't set on fire.
Could do with losing a few more bits for more space, but I think it's a bit more roomy than the picture makes out.
I want to get bits out the garage and into the loft, but the loft is so full of junk I can hardly get in it.
I wonder if the missus would notice a skip?

As long as you don't put the skip in the lounge you should be ok
It seems there are a lot of builds being started, I suggest we look to world domination by 2015, when anyone not driving a roadster will be banned from the roads. Or something

I hope your house insurance is up to date if your welding on top of that carpet! Seriously take it out of the garage, it only takes one splatter ball of 1000'c plus to start smouldering after you've shut the door.

I agree with the other's posts, take the carpet out it's safer My overalls caught fire today (and i was wearing them!)

I'll second that. I was making up some stands tonight for my build table out of old square box section. Didn't notice that the sparks from the angry grinder had set my jeans on fire. Funnily enough I've got a pair of trousers in the cupboard upstairs with a burn hole in exactly the same place
