Roll bar supplier
Hi,
anyone bought a roll bar kit from nicholas2528 on eBay? Linky:150453293968 Is it a good price, since it includes a few other bits and pieces as well as the main tube? |

Seems a good price to me.There were a couple of people on here selling rollbars as they were going for the full cage route.
Or the other option is to wait and see if AshG does another group buy if your not in a hurry. |

That's a very good price for what you get Steve, its setup to fit onto the book chassis rear end but wouldn't be a pain to convert to grp if required.

Thanks
I thought it wasn't too bad a price although £25-00 delivery is a bit steep.
Book back-end is my plan so I'd needn't diddle it around at all. I'm just thinking ahead at present, since I'm not fully under way yet. I am painting build table white, laying things out and picking up another (got through one already doing a welding cart and practising) bottle of 'Garage Gas' (argon, co2, os mix) from South Coast Welding latter on today. Then things will be finally under way. Last edited by eSteve : 9th June 2010 at 11:03 AM. Reason: Spelling |

Just one point; shouldn't rollbars be made from DOM not ERW or is that just the regulation cages?

Airhead,
by DOM do you mean seamless CDS (cold drawn steel)? What does DOM stand for? The book says it should be 'preferably seamless' (p. 53). Is there any IVA requirement for construction of the rool bar? I'll have a look through the spec. I too believe that for competition use, the roll bar/cage material specification may be tighter. Anyone know for certain what the IVA regs. on a road going roll bar is? Last edited by eSteve : 9th June 2010 at 12:38 PM. Reason: Tidy-up |

I've just looked through the IVA and it says nothing about the roll bar? The only mention is that if the seat belts are anchored to it, it gets a good looking over to ensure its firmly fixed to the chassis.

You're right Deezee, there is no requirement for a road going car to have a roll bar / cage and is not covered in the manual / test requirements. It just comes under scrutiny to make sure it is substantial enough to take the seat belt mounts.

Every day's a school day!
Well I didn't know that. I thought a roll bar was mandatory.
So this eBay chap's roll bar should be more than suitable then? For what it's worth: DOM is 'drawn over mandrel' and according to Wikipedia (and some other sites) is ERW that is drawn over a mandrel to shape it in to a specific profile. |
