Default Bloodhound SSC

Everyone has to follow this amazing project:

http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/

They are test firing the rocket engine this afternoon, 80,000hp and uses a Cosworth F1 engine just to supply the fuel to the rocket engine. Designed to travel upto 1000mph (a mile in 3.5 seconds) and driven by Andy Green - what a bloke. I always admired the Thrust SSC project but this is on another level again. Do a search on the project designer, Daniel Jubb, and they deserve to do it just for the effort he's put into his tash alone.

Britain at its best again, give any support you can...........Andy

The one before that was at farnborough airfield just down the road. A local tool shop had some involvement in it so I got the odd snippet of info. It took an age to sort out the instability of the rear wheel steering . Anyone thats driven a forklift would understand, notice the new one has the same pilot .http://www.sciencephoto.com/media/353872/enlarge

I met Andy Green at a Peterborough Motor Club evening where he was giving a talk on the whole Thrust SSC program, at the time he was still flying Harriers and saved his holidays for testing the car.
Must rate as one of the best evenings the club has organised.

They've got a live stream running upto the test firing of the engine, worth watching if anybody has time:

I'm trying to learn AutoDesk while listening to it.....

They were building/designing this at my Uni (UWE) befroe they got their current premises.
Always interesting when you see people building a scale model in the corner of your class, then when you realise its the actual one they're using for wind-tunnell testing...

Maximum "designed" speed is 1050 mph.

Did a guestimation in our first ever dynamics lecture, wheels experience over 1000 g's before you even consider impacting forces!!!!

It's unbelievable, they're still trying to source a suitable alloy to make the wheels from and also had 150 people clearing 3000 tons of loose stones from the proposed course in South Africa, over the last few months.

All the Best i say..........Andy
