It won't fail, there are still plenty out there. I would advise spending more if necessary and getting abetter one. By the time you've paid out for everything, a couple of hundred saved on a donor will seem quite irrelevant. Get a runner and drive it for a while, find out if everything is working well, replace anything that isn't. That will be a good starting position.

Next potential donor is the E36 3 series BMW, but obviously modifications to the Haynes design will need to be made, and special parts will be needed also.

The 2L Pinto is quite a rare beast to track down. I'm using the 1.8 Pinto, although I would have also gone for a 1.8 CVH. Personally I'm not a big fan of the DOHC and MT75 box due to their size. My plan is to build the car and get it running with my 1.8 pinto, this also allows me to go for an age related plate. Then while hooning around in the car prep a C20xe to slide under the bonnet for a truly experience

How about buying any old sierra with a type 9 gearbox, and getting a 2.0 pinto elsewhere? Scrappie, ebay? Trawl the retro ford/capri/escort/sierra/granada forums and you should find a few good ones for sale.
