I think I've found a very locost way of keeping you warm young Bob while your tearing around in your small block V8 roadster. You may want to put a tap in the cooling sytem and an extra large expansion tank though to keep replenishing the hot water.

Phil
Bob It looks as if that unit ticks most of the boxes required, compact, has motor & even a valve fitted so as it can be turned off if heat is not needed. Can't see tha back of it, I expect at worse you'll have to custom create the air ducting behind the dash. Certainly looks as if it is a fair bit more compact than the old Triumph units I had here ( I belive thy were Smiths units ) Never know, someone on here may have fitted one to a 7

Probably the best part of a Reliant Bob.

Maybe I,m missing something but I had the same thoughts too.
I,ve spent alot of time in Spuds car , both on track & long journeys ( Newark & back ) & found that the heat generated from the engine/transmission more or less kept my legs warm ( in fact quite cosy ), So if a heater was fitted I,m not sure you,d feel any benefit as its the upper part of the body that needs the warmth, but, alas we,re driving a car without a roof so any heat from a fitted heater would be pointless IMHO. Off to buy a thermal jacket cheers andy

I was thinking long term and windscreen with weather gear, demist is a must. I had a cobra on the road for about ten years and was eternally grateful for a bit of heat on a return journey even in the summer, anyway its to much grief to fit later so I was thinking fit and forget.

heat from the engine is plenty on my car. the transmission tunnel gets very warm even on a cold day. on a summers day i can sometimes feel it burning my foot through my shoes when i rest my clutch foot on the transmission tunnel.
from my experience of 7's if its cold then there is nothing you can do to keep warm other than stay indoors. one of the chaps in my local club made an electric heated jacket that plugs into his fag lighter socket, apparently it works very well and is the best thing since sliced bread.

Quote:
Heat from the engine bay and trans tunnel is number one on my hit list. I took a car to the south of france once and like the roadster had all ali panels. It was a complete nightmare, i even ended up at the french quacks to get pills for swollen anxles is was that hot. I was lucky enough to be at an auction a few years ago an bought two 50mx1m rolls of that heatproof silverbacked exhaust wrap. A tenner for both they must be worth thousands. I have used that on several cars to line the trans tunnel and engine bays and what a difference, so there will be none of that cooked feet buisness in any more of the cars i build. Bob
