Default SVA: Roadster or Ron Champion

If both the Haynes Roadster and the Ron Champion Locost where both built exactly as per the books, which would be the easiest to get through the SVA (or the new IVA)?

I did build the Ron Champion chassis as a college project in 1997 (long ago broken up by the college for the tube) and have decided to have another go. I have both books but haven't decided which way to go yet. Also I must admit I find the idea of the SVA or IVA a bit scary.

There shouldn't be much difference - the completed cars are very similar.

The Locost was designed before the implimentation of the SVA but if you look at my book and on the internet, it's not difficult make a Locost SVA compliant.

I don't think the IVA will be much more difficult to pass than the SVA for this type of car. Most of the differences are common sense, like having a working horn and tread on the tyres!

Difficulties could be the need for a reverse gear (bike engined cars) and the proposals regarding covering the exhaust, although this requirement is likely to be dropped after some of the kit car "big boys" kicked up a fuss as it would be treating motorcycles in a different way to cars.

The motorbike engine won't be an issue for me as I'm planning a more conventional build. If I go the Locost route it'll be Escort Mk2 based. I still have all the parts I stripped from my Sister-in-laws 1.3 escort 11 years ago(stored correctly). However if I go the Roadster route it will be Sierra (if I can find one) or BMW. I don't plan to start building until April as I have quite a few projects on the go at the moment and need to finish at least one of them to create the space needed ( if you have a look at www.rustyminis.com you'll know what I mean). Also I'll probably need to sell at least one of my projects to finance the build (mortgage, two kids and an expensive wife means everything has to be self financing these days).
You'll know when I start building, I'll probably be asking questions every day.

I agree with Chris on the whole SVA/IVA issue.

I personally think that the new IVA will be no more daunting than the current SVA.

Is that a Triumph Herald chassis leaning against your 61 Countryman ??

BTW Rustymini

Only fly in the ointment is the cost of the new IVA!
SVA/IVA is a good thing as weeds out rubbish ending up on our roads.

Yes - it was a Herald chassis, now converted for Midge. The Midge project has been put on hold.
Do we know how much an IVA test will cost?
