Default Engine Number Location

Anybody know where the engine number is stamped on the 2.0 DOHC? I can't find a number on mine that matches the log book so either I am looking at the wrong numbers or it's had an unregistered engine change.
Thanks in advance,
Enoch

Thanks TT, can't see any number there at all. Only numbers I can find are cast in behind where the near side engine mount goes. Can't see any evidence of any being ground off. Should it be on the front face below the head?
Enoch.

Think so, often very dirty so a toothebrush and white spirt to clean it up.

FWD DOHC's have the engine number on a machined pad at the rear of the block on the exhaust side about half way up,
If the engine has been replaced under warrenty then the dealer probably didn't stamp the engine number on the new block - not unusual.....

Thanks Vern, can't see it there, it's very weird. Don't know what Vosa make of it when I come to register it, I will probably end up with a Q plate or having to put a cat on it :-(

It won't even pass and your car will be retained for investigation by vosa.

Oh, that's great news. It is very strange, there seems to be no number at all, I know what it's supposed to be but can't find anything like it to prove it's the correct engine or not.
Wish I had checked it out earlier in the build, all I was worried about back then was the date stamp, which is present and correct.

OK, TT wins the biscuit
I just took my nosecone off, still could not see a number. Got out the toothbrush (don't worry it was the wife's not mine ) and white spirit and gave it a good scrub. Could just about make out 1/2 of one digit so got out the drill and wire brush, there was the number right where TT said it should be. Just under the head and slightly to the right of where the dizzy lives. Thank God it's the right one too Panic over, thanks guys.

I have an old Braun Pink Barbie electric toothbrush that I got at a carbootie too clean up the oil from engines.. Works a treat

Glad you found it as the alternative would have been finding another engine with age related info.
