Default WTD: Engine & Gearbox

Right ive made the hard decision to sell my rover v8 engine that i was planning to use so i need an engine gearbox including loom and ect. im probably looking for 2.0 ltr zetec although i havent fully decided. I did look at crossing over to the dark side and getting a bike engine but adding up the costs i dont think i can afford to at the moment. im wanting to spend about 300 for engine and box.

Im getting married next year and buying a house towards the end of the year so that gives me just over 1 year to complete car which is why im going for a simpler engine to install!

Put your location in your profile as this will also help.
Plenty on Ebay for less than 300quid.Other than that what about local rags like trade it or even mot failures or crash damaged from salvage yard?

bought my whole donor for less than £300 and you get alot more for your money than just an engine and you can sell stuff off to get some money back ?

or do you have a donor already ? will the nice people at dvla just give you a q plate if you have bits from all over the place ?

was thinking about buying a whole donar, think my mrs would kill me if i bought one though! i havent used a donor, ive been buying bits as they come up on the forums/ ebay so i have most of the bits that i need. just engine to get now. im not too fussed about the q plate situation. dont think there are any down sides to it?

Dan if your in hurry and need a quick fit option I'd say go for a 2ltr pinto, it will bolt straight up to a type9 gearbox and will only take 3-4 wires to make it run. You can always upgrade to a zetec later after IVA. How much are you looking for with regards to your V8? I might put it in the transit to make it pull a little better instead of adding a turbo to the wheezy old Di lump.

Sorry if I am poking my nose in

The 2 litre Twin Cam Sierra engine is a good strong petrol engine for the Tranny, pulls very well with loads of torque

Saw a carbed twink engined Tranny at the breakers a few months ago, wouldn't imagine that it would be that difficult to get one of those up & running.
Not sure if the Diesel MT75 box is the same as the one in the Sierra though !!

Very nearly bought the engine & box to replace the Pinto engine in mine, sold the Tranny instead

The twin cam in the roadster would be a good lump espesh if you shaved a bit off the fly wheel, still get the torque but would pick up alittle quicker.
As for it going in the transit, not a chance. It's a twin wheel recovery that's got to get me,two others, all the tools, spare wheels, carry an xr2i and drag a trailer carrying a pug 106 up several hills. It's also my daily driver and a v8 would realy sound nice going through the country lanes.
