Default Sloting seat runner to chassis mounting holes?

Hi, I'm wondering if horizontally slotted mounting holes would be OK for mounting my seat runners to the chassis. I can't think the IVA man would have an issue with this but thought I'd ask anyway

I'll be using seat runners from a rover metro but the metro I intend to take them off is still currently my dailer runner! Although not for long, it'll fail its MOT beyond economic repair either this year or next !

So as I don't have my seats mounted to the runners just yet a small amount of sideways adjustment would be quite usefull, I'm using the narrow seats from Triton so I've got a fair bit of space either side in the chassis for adjustment.

Hi Josh,
sorry, i missed this thread

Tho having just read it, i,m not totally sure how you mean?

Do you mean slotting the mounting points so that you can adjust the position of the seat between the side chassis rail & tranny tunnel?
or do you mean in a "for & aft " position?

sorry for not quite understanding your question

cheers
andy

I've just fitted mine (Triton wide) and did it by making up blank rails. Getting all the seat runners fitted up to the seats. Then clamp some wood across the bottom of the car and lowering the seats into position on the rails. This then allowed me to move everything around until I was happy with the side to side position. I then drilled the rails and bolted the seat down. Then put it all back in the car and set up the rails for fore and aft position before tacking the rails in.

Personally I would avoid making slotted holes as if anything comes loose or relaxes in the future you will start sliding around. Also the IVA man might start to ask questions and think it is a 'bodge' rather than a deliberate bit of work.

Hi Andy, I ment slotting to allow sideways adjustment of the seat postion. I think I'll just weld the supports into the chassis with no holes and wait until I have the seat and seat runners ready to go in. As david says IVA man may think its a bodge...

cheers

That sounds like the way to go

I do remember that Ash G has posted some dimensions of where he welded in his seat support bars, I think he used metro runners too, can,t for the life of me remember the dimensions tho, but think the thread was titled "seat runners" or something similar

cheers

No worries I've got all the hole locations sorted down the length of the chassis, distances from the rear lower chassis rail (think its BR1 but haven't got the book to hand). Its just the side ways location I was worried about!

Cheers
Josh
