Roll bar height

Does any one know what sort of distance should be between the top of the roll bar and your head/ helmet.

Most comments I've seen (talonmotorsport, etc) and my own experience from designing a formulae student car state that you must draw a line from the top of your rollbar to your front support structure (front frame for the roadster) and there must be 50mm clearance above your helmet.
