View Full Version : Why is CP16 cutout not central?

Just been looking at the steering column mounting and preparing for extending.
But I can't figure out why the cut out in cp16 isn't central. Wouldn't this keep the steering wheel nice and straight and give more clearance for engine?
The picture shows the 2 steering wheel bolts tightened and the shaft pulling central but its very close to the side.
I'm assuming this is just to keep the shaft as straight as possible and have as little angle at the joint as possible.

Hi,
Either your CP16 is placed the wrong way around, but I don't think so, either your CP15 are too far on the right. I think your problem comes from the position of CP15's.
Just my opinion ;)

Something doesn't look right there. My steering runs right through the middle of the cutout. Is CP16 the right way around?

I see, I think the position of cp15 is one of the dimensions that wasn't in the book. I'm sure I got the position from a thread I was reading on here. Can't remember now.
Oh well I will either modify or replace cp16 once I am happy with the position.

I checked on my chassis/pictures ans also in the book page 46, CP15's should definitely be closest to SW3.

You should place CP15 according the postilion of the steering column going straight into the centre of CP16's cut out, and not the opposite.

I think you tried to have your steering column perfectly centred on the section of TR9 which is between TT12 and TR2. However, your reference shouldn't be this, but the centre of CP16's cut out. CP15's have to me moved closer to the transmission tunnel (or SW3) I think.

Hope that make sense :)

Yes I think cp16 is the right way. Actually I haven't checked the dimensions.
Better have a check

Yes that makes sense vouch. Thanks for checking.
I will check the position of the steering wheel but it did seem central and if further to the right as pic it would be even closer to the gearstick and it already seems pretty close.
