Hi all

I am waiting to hear for my Iva test. I hear different experience regarding tie wraps , I have used it to secure the cables with insulation in the engine bay, and then securing the wiring from the stay wing , also the cover for the steering arms etc. looking at the CKC it looked like the arrangement they have used.

So is tie wrap a problem for IVA?

cheers

I thought that it had to be a permanent fixing ? As in using p clips etc. if it is ok, they may look into chaffing of the wiring. Not 100% sure though. :D

Most of my wiring is held in place using cable tie saddles and cable ties.
Passed IVA without any trouble or comment.

What they don't like is stick on cable tie bases - my bases are nearly all screwed or riveted in place. Where I had to use stick-on bases (i.e. on the inside of the wings) I fibreglassed them in place to make them permanent.

Used plenty of ties on mine eg securing edge trim on seat belt mounts.Front brake hose to top wishbone. holding cable bundles together and cable along chassis etc.

Thank you all for your response, I have used the base mount , but I shall make them permanent.

Wish me luck just waiting for the date now!

I just used brake pipe sized p clips riveted down as my anchors and zip tied my cables to them. I had plenty left over so it made sense.

I used rubber "p" clips to hold 1/4" solid aluminium round bar which I could bend to go round obstacles and corners. This way I could route cables almost where I wanted with as many cable ties as I pleased without it looking untidy.:D
Aluminium round bar only cost me £4.50 for a 4m length.:) :)
This made it easy to mock up cable routing just using only a few cable ties to hold in place before covering in split conduit.
