I am considering using a fibre glass floor instead of using aluminium. I will be using regular supports throughout, but just fancy doing something a little different. I got the idea from John Dickens, from complete kit car magazine. It's nice and light, and fairly strong if enough layers are used in the laminate. It can't be any worse that aluminium, because that just tears if you snag it, so what the hell ! I can also see the argument for using steel plate, as it adds more strength into the chassis, but it just adds more weight. Every man for himself hey ? One final idea, is to drop a mini roll bar into the scuttle. I don't fancy using my moosh as a brake if things go tits up ! a full roll cage is out of the question because in my personal opinion, it takes too much away from the car, & that's not what I would like to do after 1000's of hours of research & labour on it. I am going for a very clean, minimal look.

Do you mean GLARE?

GLassfibre Aluminium Re-inforced (i can't remember the last part of the anacronym)

Boeing developed it for the Dreamliner. Stiffer, lighter and stronger than the equivelent thickness aluminium as used on every other plane. Also better at impact resistance.

2 layers of tinfoil thick aluminium and a layer of glassfibre 90° weave between them.

Pretty good idea. I might give it some thought for my build.

It was developed at the Technical University of Delft, first used on the Airbus A380. I don't think you can buy it, unless you are planning to make it yourself :)

It exist of a alu layer, glassfibre prepreg 90°, glassfibre prepreg 0°, alu layer, ...
