Hi Guys,
Having been out of the UK for so long i am totally out of touch with which insurance providers are competitive at the moment.
Due to work overseas i have a big fat 0 years NCB which doesn't help!

I just bought a cheap 02 Golf GT-TDI to use for a month or 2 until i get everything else sorted out with relocation etc..

I have tried the generic internet searches (go compare, money supermarket) but i am getting some ridiculous quotes of over a grand.

I am 30, no accidents, no points, no ncb! car is garaged and use about 10k per year. Surely 1k is a bit steep?

Anyone got any recommendations for who to use and what can help reduce the cost?

Thanks

I was with swiftcover when I got insured again and was in the same boat because I didn't have a car for years only to be told.... "they only last 2 year's"

That still sounds a bit steep, maybe worth trying some of the insurer's who don't go on the comparison sites, direct line etc but u may just end up taking the hit then next year it will drop by a massive chunk.

As far as reducing the cost worth doing the usual, increasing excess, getting rid of legal, breakdown, accident cover if you are covered elsewhere, or just going without. Also worth adding someone else on the policy (I have my dad on mine as a named driver and it dropped mine by a big chunk. That said it sounds like apart from the ncb there aren't many other things counting against. Although a golf gt tdi certainly isn't going to be a particularly low insurance group so that won't be helping your cause. Guessing you have already declared manufacturer fitted alarm and immobilisor?

Out of interest I'm currently with Tesco.
