Has anyone used the bracket that came with the engine.
I should explain that I have a pinto that I am fitting in my car and I see in the book that there are chassis plates to make up a new bracket, we'll I tried the old bracket on and I can get the alternator in place and it misses the steering column, but it am wondering if I am missing something obvious.

Is it something to do with the use of the old ally engine mountings being used in the book car ?

Yes I think you are right the oe ally ones are horizontal so foul you steering shaft raising the steering shaft means fouling the alternator
I angled my engine mounts down so I could then drop the angle of the steering shaft allowing clearance on the alternator

I missed this post,
I used the stock alternator and mount on my build and it didn't fowl or get in the way. It was tight though.
I did have to change the stock offside engine mount as the steering column went through the middle of the mount.
