Right, I've done a seach and found a few similar threads but not really found an answer for both of my problems

Problem 1

I have made the rear upright as in the book with the tube for the rear wishbone bolt 62mm up from the jig, then once I was ready to tack the rear upright I double checked the hole for the shock as in fig 5.24, it says 66mm but it is 70mm and 70mm back works correct to the 62mm if you trig out the dimension of RU2

Hope this makes sence

Problem 2

There's loads of threads about rotating RU8 to suit disc brakes better but all the threads are old and the pictures are missing, can anyone help me out??

Hi,
I can't help for problem 1 as I haven't done my rear uprights myself but bought them from Talonmotorsport.

Regarding problem 2, the book, page 72, says how tu place RU8 according to disc or drum set-up.

However, Talonmotorsport's uprights are designed to fit both disc and drum set-ups, as you can see on the following pictures of my car.

For drum set-up, this design also allows you to use flexi brake lines going directly into the drum cylinder with a straight male fitting, and not the copper pipe thingy explained in the book.

Hope this will help :)

Are you going for rear disc or rear drum set-up?

Yeah im going disc, i think rotating like that also helps with disc handbrake cable from what i can work out

Does anyone have a picture of a rotated upright with a caliper fitted?

Well I've tacked them up like this, looks right to me, anyone else pass judgment?

And the hubs will bolt on like so

You may want to go and get the whole caliper assembly and offer it up to the upright before you go any further, if you weld it fully and it's wrong it's a royal pain in the arse to fix.

The book was wrong if I remember correctly with regard to drum and disc in the drawings.
You may find you cant get the caliper etc on as you have it when fitted to the suspension,as Phil said royal PITA to fettle.
The drum set up will fit with cylinder upright as it is fitted to all the Sierras that had drums on.

Hi Ross,

According my CAD model the upper bone hole is 58 mm from the RU5 tube or jig surface and all other dimension match with book diagrams within a few tenths of a mm. Here's a screenshot https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=D2EB07CD4638302D!64819&authkey=!AB9dFdrefXjUsfo&v=3&ithint=photo%2cJPG.

Hi thanks for the reply but the hole I'm talking about is the one further up on the same plate and from the surface of the jig to.the center of that hole I'm getting 70 but the book says 66

Ricky, I checked my fabricated upright for the shock mounting dimension and it is in accordance with book diagram. Here's a photo http://1drv.ms/1Q6PhgA. So can suggest for you only to double check your components and assembly.

The measurement that me and Rosco get is 70 from the face of the jig to the center of the hole without the flanges and my jig is like the book but it's ok thanks I have decided what I'm going to do
