Hi All,

I wondered if I could get some opinions on servicing for my 1999 Vectra SRi 2.0:

It currently has FSH with all bar one being carried out by Vauxhall, but as the car has just covered 94k, and with me wanting to channel funds into other things now ;) where do you guys stand on home servicing? Obviously I can service it perfectly well at home (or I wouldn't be building a car from scratch! :D ) and at a fraction of the cost, but will this significantly hurt the value? I'm inclined to think with this age and mileage, a nice wadge of receipts on top of an already comprehensive service record is just as good as a load of stamps in the book? I'm almost inclined to have a stamp made up for me so I can stamp the book myself, but don't know the implications of this? After all, you don't HAVE to undergo any formal training to set up a garage, and why should I be penalised for doing a job properly - at least when I change the filters I actually change them unlike some cowboys who take the air filter out, bang the dust out and then put it back!

What do you guys think? The cambelt/tensioners will need doing in a few thousand miles so I'm inclined to do the service myself and then pay someone to do that job for me?

Any suggestions welcome...

Hi
A car with a full service record with that milage and year is still only worth as much as some one is prepared to pay for it. You would be lucky to get £2000. for it. With that in mind i would be looking to drive it for as little cost as possible. Self servicing if being done safly being a big saveing. Having not much faith in main dealer servicing once the warranty is over i look to service my car my self so i no that it has been done properly. I currently drive a Mercedes CLK320 On a 03 plate. I get the local service center to check it on there upto date computer and change the oil, trun the service clook back. Then thay will stamp the book and register it with mercedes. From there i continue with full service A or B. Iv done it this way with the jaguar befor that and always got the best price back on them.

Thanks mate,

That was what I wanted to hear - I know the car is only worth about £2k, but I didn't want to service it myself and then automatically see it drop to £1500 when I can do the job just as well as anyone else...
