I thought I would share this with you folks as it really made my day.

During a visit to my local steel stockholders on Monday, I asked for 1 metre of 30mm bright round bar.

" Certainly sir, that will be £12.50 + Vat + £1 cutting charge"

I was then told that they were stacked out with work & would not be able to cut it untill next week !!??

I left empty handed. :(

Today I broke my bandsaw blade. Back up to the steel stockholders once more.

Out of interest I went up to the cutting shed & asked the foreman if by any chance he had any off-cuts of 30mm bright round bar.

We went down to the stock shed ( Right next to the trade counter )
He pulled a 1.1 metre length of bar from the shelf !!
I said " Ideal that would have done on monday "

We went to the trade counter to pay for it. The foreman said to the manager (loudly) " This gentleman would like to pay for this piece of bar, you know, the one that you did not have time to cut on monday "

You could have toasted bread on the managers face :D :D

Best of all, as it was an off-cut, it only cost me a tenner. Result
