I was just looking through the member list and I've noticed that we have a lot of members that haven't posted.
I wonder why that is?
I know some people are naturally shy, my self included, do you think we intimidate people? We don't bite (hard).
It's a mystery
Cheers
Chris :)

Some of us just lurk about, suck up some information and slink back to the garage! :o
Hi from South Africa, where I've been quietly building my chassis for the last few months!
My chassis is just about done, just got the wishbone brackets to fit! Then I need to source the steel for the wishbones somewhere...going well and great fun so far.
Cheers

Thanks for the nudge Chris - I'm trying to lurk in my garage! Chassis nearly complete and starting on the bones. Took delivery of a bell housing to fit a type 9 onto a Toyota 4age recently. Cant wait to trial fit the engine and sort out mountings. Lots to do

In my case I dont always have much to add as my car is no longer true to form, this of course as a result I could not find a donor over here on this side of the world.
I still enjoy the forum and read it, just dont have much to add when the parts, tools and other stuff to not cross reference very easily between here and there.
Though having had a mum from Enfield has helped with the lingo at times.
Also perhaps my build might offer a different perspective from a point of interest.
The basic frame is Chris's and I modified the front end, some bracing and the back end to suit the parts I can get cheaply. I am using a Haynes nosecone with a Hyundai radiator, which fits surprisingly well.
I still enjoy reading what everyone is saying and where possible will jump in when I can.

I've been very quiet for a couple of months.
2 main reasons;
1. I have done nothing on my build due to sheer laziness
2. I spent the last month in Peru and Ecuador :D

I was quiet for a long time I brought the book flicked through it ..put it down.. picked it up..read it on the loo, was told by by the boss that all the other projects and customer jobs had to be done first. I still owe her a completed kitchen, bathroom, pergola the list carries on. It also helps that I no longer work from the garden or the drive as building stock, grass track, track day cars, trailers, recovery buildies is a little noisy!
So now I have the time to play with all my toys I intend on making the most of it till the boss says it's time to finish the kitchen,bathroom..........

Hi Al
I think the folk here would be most interested in how you have managed to overcome any issues that arise from the use of different donor parts. :)
One thing for sure, although I am an experienced fabricator, this build has definately given me the confidence to experiment.
If I were to build another Roadster. I would now have the confidence to adapt things to suit any donor that I may choose.
Thanks to Chris, the book gives you far more than the information of how to build the Roadster.
Money can't by you confidence
Good luck with the rest of your build Al :)

I totally agree any info on different set ups not contained in the book can only be of benefit to the rest of us
Id love to see your build
I also dont think any two builds will be the same so its good to see how people have overcome there own probs
anyone out there building a rear engined roadster with a front wheel drive set up put at the back id definately be interested in that
Ray:)

I'm thinking there could be a section for members' projects in this forum, with each build having a separate thread. It's a pretty common occurrence on other automotive forums. I would gladly post some photos of my own progress, but creating a thread it in the Announcements section seems a bit pompous.

Not quite sure how we got from a thread about quiet members to here, but I section of the forum devoted to members builds would be good, but personally I keep a build diary on blogspot. I use it as it is a free webspace, you can put HUUUGE pictures on it (both reasons are rather than using up large volumes of space on the forum), you can immediately link to any stage by post date, and any comments are hidden so the builders story flows nicely rather than being interrupted by questions from other members.
I put a link to it in my signature if anyone wants a look.

I guess I have become part of this thread recently. Sorry for the minimal progress I have made recently. This is down to lack of motivation losing all my posts, starting a new job and some other major changes in my life. I guess I am ready to take the first big step and share my life with a special young lady. So while we sort out and discuss if we should live in Plymouth or Bristol and which drawers belong to who! The poor old roadster is being neglected! Don't worry, back on track soon. Weekdays in Plymouth and every other weekend in Bristol! Wish me luck gents!

I second that! I've moved into my first house with a garage two years ago and got planning. Then I got married this Jan just gone and now have a sprog due next Jan  . I think you can fill in the blanks as to why my build has been a bit slow. :D :D

Just wait until they get bigger and cheekier - my eldest (who is 12) doesn't think I'll have finished by the time he does his GCSEs.

I was intending to lurk for a few months just to pick up advice and knowledge before I can start making serious plans about a build but I think I'll say hi now :)
I'm going to build a car with my dad when he returns from Canada next year so my build is quite a way off yet. Still need to find a house with a garage, driveway or garden as I currently live in a flat until my parents come back.
But when he does come back and things are settled I want to get going. Basic plans at the moment involve a BMW E36 donor car. How well do the 6 cylinder engines fit? My dad also wants to do a Range Rover Classic based lightweight off roader as we used to do a lot of off roading before he moved to Canada.
But for now I'm just going to lurk around and read peoples progress for ideas :)
I also need to learn how to weld and save up some money, it's going to be hard on a uni student budget
My name is David by the way and when I'm in a position to start building I'll be posting a LOT more often with questions :p

Hey fluxcored
I'm in JHB, Randpark Ridge - not far from the guys who make the local Locost chassis.
I'll put up pics at some point soon, with a little detail on the build thus far...
