best show some respect to your elders young man (Mark) lol
you must have been one of the eldest in your school year then I was always one of the yougest and i think i was lucky enough to be in the first year were they didnt teach pounds shillings and pence
also we were supposed to go metric and then when i started my apprenticeship had to learn imperial as "thats what real egineers use son".

A rep visited a Cornish engineering works.
Whilst demonstrating the latest CNC lathe. He proudly proclaimed " This machine is accurate to within One tenth of a Thousandth of an inch "
An old Cornish engineer said " That aint no good me ansum, we need to do it exactly " :o

All milly metric for me at school then leave and go into engineering to find they used weird things called feet and inches.... I now use milly metric for marking out small stuff and switch to feet 'n inches when gets bigger than 300milly wotsits. Just to confuse folk:D

I tend to switch between the two constantlly depending on what seems best or closest my lathe and all my mics are english but i often convert to metric in my head
people get confused these days if you talk about 64ths 16ths thous tenths etc but tight metric tolerances always confuse me so i convert to english
now Ill bet that makes no sense at all:)

Perfect sense as you use whats best for you and as long as the job turns out ok then tickety boo.
When I was doing chassis's I used both milly metric and imperial all the time..:D
