Hi All,
I find it helps to talk about this, so here goes.......
As a small few of you will know I've been in and out of hospital for the last few weeks and last Thursday went in for biopsy op, throat exploritry & bone marrow aspiration* (* as the registrar put it, big needle in to the hip bone in reality). This is to confirm what the reults of the the scratch test are, it's looking like Lymphoma.
I'm off to see the haematologist Wednesday, and in for a CT scan on Friday to see the full picture. By which time they hope to have the results of the biopsy back so I'll know exactly what I have. The consultant is happy that it is treatable with drugs (I guess that's a non scary term for chemotherapy :( ).
So, the waiting begins......
Kind regards
John

Hope you get through it quickly.
My aunt had lymphoma, and a few chemotherapy sessions sorted her right out. From diagnosis, to full recovery was in the region of 6 months.
I really do hope you get sorted nice and quickly

I'm sorry to hear about this John, My sister had lymphoma six years ago and she's fine now with no relapses. The treatments these days have much less in the way of side effects too. Fingers crossed for you mate - I'm sure you'll be fine.
Cheers
Chris :)

Thanks guys, I'm hopeful things are going to be OK too, you always seem to read horror stories about the NHS, but I've found them to be fantasitic, quick and efficient, I can't fault them.
Kind regards

Never met you but feel (with the help of the forum) I know you.
My father had Lymphoma at the age of 71 and was treated with drugs and was right as rain playing 18 holes 7 months later that was 4 years ago and to him it is just a distent memory.
Good luck, will see you at Exeter. Bringing cash!! Handy Andys idea:eek:

Well, what a three weeks i've had, the original biopsy returned an inconclusive result, so instead of going in to see the Haematologist I instead went in for another op.
They took a much larger piece this time, resulting in a 10cm scar on my neck. Fortunately they went in the same hole so i only have the one scar, unfortunately the results have confirmed the consultants thoughts and i have been diagnosed with cancer.
So this Wednesday I will be off to see the Haematologist to find out whats in store for me, and which form of Lymphoma i have. I have no idea what treatment I'll be getting but hopefully I'll be well enough for the show later this month.
Kind regards
John

Thanks guys, it was one of those 50p 20p moments, and if I'm totally honest it's not fully sunk in yet.
I've had a chat with a few people now who have had success in beating it, so I'm hopeful I will too.
As mentioned above, the staff at the RD&E at wonford have been great, i can't fault them.
Andy, are you travelling down with Ash to Exeter? I'm looking forward to seeing some old faces, and a few new ones too.
Kind regards

I've just got back from seeing the Haematologist, I actually have 2 forms of Lymphoma, the first is a low grade form of Non-hodgkins and can remain untreated for for years. The other is Non-Hodgkins B Cell Lymphoma (which can be either intermediate or high grade) of which i have the high grade version.
So next Wednesday i start Chemotherapy, it has the lovely name of R-CHOP, which will last 18 weeks, and the end of which I should have the all clear :)
Thanks once again for everyones support, it makes dealing with this so much easier.
Kind regards
John

Well, chemo visit No1 done 5 left to do.
Actually, not that bad on the day, 5 1/2 hours of drug consumption, Pete Doherty would have been proud :D Today though i keep nodding off, so not all bad news.
It's 9-12 days time that it gets serious, at that point the drugs will have taken effect, they work by killing off the quick growing cells in the body, the tumours, hair cells that grow fast (beard & head) and sadly the blood cells, so the white blood cells that make up your immune system get a right hammering.
So no Exeter show for me, as there are too many chances of catching germs of one form or another. Keith & Tony will have their work cutout, but hopefully support from Chris and Ash will help.
Thanks once again all of you for your support.
Kind regards
John

Yeah, the staff are great, it's a big change from most of the departments I've had the pleasure of using lately. Most of them are 10 foot square with 30 people in, Haematology is like Starbucks it couldn't be more different.
