I,d just like to say a Big Thanks to the NHS after spending 3hrs in the A&E dept at my local hospital last night then another 3hrs this morning,
we,ve all heard the NHS being moaned about but my personal situation in the last 18hrs has made me see that the staff do the very best they can with possibly limited resources.
I was there not for me but my little lad (2 & half yrs old), it appears he has the "pig bug", the staff at the A&E couldn,t have been nicer to him.
hats off to the staff of the NHS, maybe its the goverment relying on the compassion/dedication of doctors & nurses that they don,t get the equipment/resources/pay that they deserve.

Hi Guys
I like to go along with everyone else and praise the NHS, as I have said on anther thread the NHS is the best British institution still going strong and let’s hope the politicians will keep it that way.

Andy,
I hope the big guy is fighting fit now.
When you really need them they are great. From resent firsthand experience I can’t fault them. Paying all that money for all those years without using the service pales into insignificance when you need them. Long live the NHS.

Hope he gets over it nice and quick mate.
My mum has been a nurse at the same hospital for 33 years now, she trained there when she first came over from Ireland.
She is now in middle management, and out of uniform, but the senior management still take the p155 out of all and sundry.
It's all about targets, rather than care for them.
I have been in a few times and they have always been spot on, with clean wards, decent staff, good equipment.

Hi Andy,
Hope all is well now.
I've had a hell of a job with the jobsworth on reception at my doctors about getting the swine flu jab.
It goes along the lines of "can i have an appointment?" No, you're not a pregnant lady!
 NO, i'm just a frikin high risk cancer patient!!!
Sorry started to rant there a bit
All the best mate, I hate it when my kids are ill, as i can't do anything for them.
Kind regards
John

i understand where you are coming from John.......
i had an appt a few months ago that was set by the reception at my GP,s, i turned up for the appt on time only to be told it had been cancelled & that i should have received a letter ( none received )
the jobsworth wouldn,t accept it was their fault
The doctors & nurses have always been good, its getting beyond reception that is the hard part:rolleyes:
thanks for the best wishes of my little lad, :)
& the same to you John, wish you a speedy recovery to full health.
cheers

My wifes been ill for 18 YEARS and the only time she gets anything done is after going private, then the same surgeon does something on the NHS. I began attending her appointments and asking specific questions but despite her saying I could speek on her behalf the surgeon refused to aknowlege I was there. During one of her appointments the surgeon that had been 'told, to do something diverted her away from problem by saying that a mole on her face looked cancerous and should be checked, it was totally benign and the specialist was 'surprised she had been refered for something like this, ............................. sorry rant over.

You are not a 'real' parent until you have either had to take your little 'uns to A&E or sent them off in an ambulance :D .
My oldest (8, thats his age, not his name) went to A&E twice. Middle son (6) was taken in ambulance 3 times and last week we took youngest daughter (1) to MI (minor injuries, not sure why its different to A&E?).
That sounds like we are bad parents, which I hope we aren't. Just these things happen. Kids get sick or have accidents.
I can not fault the NHS one bit. I know lots of people knock it and there will always be the bad stories, but I honestly feel they are hugely outnumbered by the good stories that don't get told. Not being too dramatic, but my middle son is alive because of all the people who work in the NHS.
So, give you lad a big squeeze and hope its his last trip to the hospital for a while.

Earlier this year I was at the haematology department for a scheduled screening.
Deep joy, I was given the all clear for 2 years instead of the usual 1 year.:) :
When I went to the reception, to make my next appointment for 2 year's time.
The nice lady gave me tha date ( Mid 2011 ) and said " Is that ok "
I said fine at first, then said " Oh, hang on a moment, DFS are delivering my new sofa that day " :D :D
We both had a good laugh, briliant staff and fantastc care :)

Good news Ronnie!
I think it's a given with Haematology, they all seem to go beyond it being a job. They're always cheerful and helpful in what must be a hard job to do, I know it's not one i could do.
The staff at Exeter are fantastic, my brother in law visits Chichester for his leukemia treatment and they're the same there.
Kind regards

Hi Andy
Sorry only just read your post.
I see the title " Thanks NHS" and didn't even bother to go any further.
I know the staff do a good job with the resorses they have.
it's the way it's run that gets to me.
Anyway sorry to here your young lad has been poorly.
Nothing worse than a sick child.
Hope he gets better soon.
All the best mate David

The NHS, simply the best, a more dedicated group of people would be hard to find.

cheers LL,
my little lad is almost back to full health, still a little grumpy with the medicine he has to have but he must be getting better as "the cheeky" side of him is returning  :D
i think whats hard is kids don,t actually understand "why" they are unwell, its one of those situations where i wish i could have been ill for him.
Thanks for thinking of him:)
cheers
