Bought a Clarke 1ton engine crane of the Eblag.
Not sure if it's working correct.
It has 2 pistons on the ram, but when I jack it up it only lifts on the up stroke...
Is this how it's supposed to work?
I would have thought it would have lifted on both up and down stroke.
Cheers David

Does it "Jack Down " or have a release to let it down. Truck cab rams work on the same principal and stops it falling down from leakage through seals etc as it has to be pumped back down.

Hi.
No it does not jack down, you release it the same as a trolly jack.
A little twiddley jobbie on the side..
Just an figure what that second pump does if it ain't a lifter.
It's not a major prob for me, I have lifted plenty of weight with it.
And it jacks up fine

Odd David,Must just be the capacity with twin pistons pumping to lift weight.

it should move on the up and down. common problem with them is the lower o ring on the piston comes of. i wouldnt bother fixing it ntil the other side stops working aswell.
i havent got a cold you must have got it else where

Hi, either a dodgy seal or a stuck one way ball valve
Do you get resistance on both strokes? try pumping quickly to free off the valve or a light tap with a mallet
either way id fix it before you use it with an engine on
although having some weight on it might just make it work properly

oh just a thought make sure the ram is down before you undo anything or support it or youll have oil everywhere and the ram will come down quickly trapping pinkys on its way:(

Said pinkys could become trapped in a plastic bag minus a body....

Cheers Ray.
No there is no resistance at all on the down stroke.
I have already put plenty of weight on it.
I lifted a Rayburn fire into my van with it, so I know it lifts ok
Think I'll take it apart when I get back to France, coz it defo don't seem right.
Think you could be right with a stuck valve or a b****ed seal.
David 10 fingers..
