clio radiator fitting?

hi guys, trying to set up radiator today and it looks like which ever way I have it , it is a tight fit has anyone got any pics. Also I am using an MK eng nosecone.

This is'nt going to be much help but i could'nt get the clio rad to fit. I had the mk noes as well. The polo rad fits but im no shore what year and engine size. I ended up with a mercedes rad.

I have spent almost the entire day today, messing with a golf GTI rad .... Very tight fit & a real barsteward trying to position it so as the bottom hose will miss the front frame. :confused: :confused:

Would be great to find a rad that has the top & bottom outlets in opposite corners .... Better still, in the middle :)

I think you are right its from a 190. It was second hand from the local garage swapped it for the clio. I will be looking to put the same one on my new build with a zetec.

Got a fan from the brackers off a micra. Fitted it to blow throw as it was on the micra. I got a an adjustable thermostat from CBS. Works well.

I fitted mine under a Saturn nose cone. It had loads of clearance all around it. I'm surprised that the MK nose cone is so different.

I may be stating the obvious here.
But have you guys tried tilting the rad ?
I had probs with the bottom hose (Polo rad)
So pushed the bottom of the rad out to get clearence
on the hose.

I used a Mk 2 Polo radiator, and it fitted vertically quite nicely. Managed to plumb it up using the original Sierra hoses, and some bits of metal pipe.

I have attached a link to the one I bought below.

If your going to mount it on end, make sure you header tank is way above the rad's inlet/outlet and idealy fitted with a level warning..

Otherwise, if the water drops too low the water may not pump out of the outlet, and also the thermo switch may be high and dry...

Well I am back in sunny Wiltshire after the 3 hour drive from the midlands, Nicky shot straight out to stock up with food and whilst she was gone I bought the radiator.

Well done that man :cool:

After seeing Gus's picture I went out after lunch ready to get stuck into re-mounting that rad.

Go to use the welder just to find that the wire speed is stuck on full volume once again :rolleyes:

So, spent the afternoon pulling that lot apart .... All fine again now .... The damp enviroment of the worksop affects a potentiometer on the main PCB.

Let's hope it goes on for another couple of years before I have to strip it again :)

HI guys, great info given but my radiator I bought as a mk2 clio is much bigger than that. The lugs that hold the mounting rubbers jam on the inside of nosecone if I tilt back at bottom and if I stand rad up in usual position the lugs hit top of nosecone. looks like polo rad is much better . Might wait till stoneleigh and have a look at roadster builds if you guys dont mind.

I know when we where fitting Ash’s radiator (now for the life of me I can’t remember what it is off) we cut loads of the plastic of the corners of the radiator, to the point I wouldn’t cut any more as I was convinced we were about to cut too far.

Then the rad was lent forward at the top until it cleared the nose cone.

Hope my waffle is of some use.
